Never give kids a choice...

Some days, I admit, I forget my golden rule and.. I ask the kids, what they feel like for dinner?, there is three of them so it is never the same answer and then there are fights about what we will actually choose. They know I don't make more than 1 meal in this house for dinner, so before I know it... I am breaking up fights that sound something like this.... "But Mum I said Lasagne first. "But I HATE lasagne" "He is lying, he eats lasagne he is just being mean"" by this stage... I am somewhere rocking in a corner and wondering why I forgot my golden rule and bothered to give them a choice in the first place...

So after learning the hard way, as many of us have done... I still give them a choice, however I go about it in a slightly different way.. it's giving them a choice but totally controlling what they will say ie". "Would you like lasagne or octopus salad? "I do find this tactic works well, although mine are still young enough to fall for this trick! *insert evil laugh*

There are also choices to be made by them when we make Tacos - they can choose what goes in them (again controlled by me what I put out to choose from) and of course they can choose pizza toppings when it is home made pizza night...

Our saying in this house "You get what you get and you don't get upset"... although I have had to have a chat to my 5 year old son when it is acceptable to say this...when recently at a kids party another child was crying over the cup cake he got given (he wanted green not blue) and my son pronounced loudly to the party table "WE SAY YOU GET WHAT YOU GET AND YOU DON''T GET UPSETT!"... I was lucky I suppose as he could have said "suck it up princess"... or something worst... Kids!

On that note, take my advice, don't ask - just serve.

I'm off to put cheese and pizza sauce into bowls so they can choose what pizza they are having tonight, hahahahahaha

Happy Friday Mummas,
