Easter is not exactly the time of year we’re really concerned about healthy eating! It’s all about the chocolate and the hot cross buns! And so it should it be!

But nothing wrecks a holiday quicker than the little ones being so high on sugar that tantrums take over and ruin the relaxed vibe.  Sugar also feeds the not-so-good for us bacteria living in our digestive tracts.  Once the kids are full up on sugar, they can experience nasty tummy troubles from cramps, pains, constipation or the runs! None of that will make your Easter Top 10 list!

So today I’d like to gently suggest maybe an 80/20 rule of eating for the Easter weekend.  Eighty percent of the kiddies’ food should be healthy with a small side of chocolate Easter eggs.  Now is a great time to explain that the Bunny brings treats that are special but not healthy so we have to make sure we eat lots of good things (like the Bunny’s carrots!) for our bodies before eating the treats!

Explaining that we’re going to Eat the Rainbow is a great way to get kids eating the good stuff.  One – two servings of all the colours of the rainbow should be eaten every day.
